Geography Vocabulary
Here is a collection of vocabulary which I have learned this unit:
Active Volcano: A volcano that has erupted quite recently and is very likely to erupt again in the future.
Agriculture: The growing of crops and the breeding of animals human food or nessesities.
Cardinal Points: The four main points of the compass rose: North, South, East and West
Drought: A length of time where the is no rain, often resulting in a serious water shortage.
Earthquakes: A movement of the Earth’s surface caused by the shifting of tectonic plates.
Environment: The natural surroundings where people, plants and animals take place.
Erosion: The wearing and removal of earth caused by nature.
Fossil Fuels: Fuels from the remains of plants or ancient life.
Mining: The extraction or digging out of minerals from deep under the ground, e.g. coal, iron ore.
Natural Resources: Raw materials which that from the earth e.g. water, coal or fertile soil.
Plain: A low flat area.
Plateau: A tall flat area.
Soil Erosion: The removal of soil by wind or water.
Valley: An area of lowland with slopes either side. A river flows along the lowest part
Vegetation: All kinds of plants including shrubs and trees.
